FAQ
This page will answer some frequently asked questions about my build and building a sim like this in general. There are so many different ways to build a sim like this. Everyone has a unique situation, so my way is by no means a “right” way, just “a way”. This is just based on my experience thus far.
I’ll try to add more FAQ’s over time and as people ask me questions I feel may be beneficial to you all.

Starting your own home flight simulator is an exciting and rewarding adventure. It can also be expensive and very challenging at times. I give you some tips on where to start and what to consider when starting to plan out your own flight simulator build.
This is probably THE most asked question and the answer is… somewhere between $1 and a million. Joking aside, most simmers are hesitant to answer how much their full-size home-built flight simulator cost because: 1) It’s always more than they want to admit2) They don’t want to be reminded of how much they’ve spent3) They …
Here are just some of the things you’ll likely need to build a simulator like this, off the top of my head. Yeah, be prepared because all of these were needed at some time or another during this build.

Thank you for a most informative site!
Do you know of a source for sim panel faces and enclosures (the instrument face and a box to attach it to). I am good at soldering/electronics, but cannot justify the expense of a 3D printer and/or a laser cutter. I would like to build com, nav and AP boxes but cannot afford the prices of the commercial units.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks again.

Hi Rod, much appreciated! Unfortunately I don’t know of anyone who can make custom panels off-hand, though I’m certain there’s someone out there who does it. I would suggest asking on the CockpitBuilders forum (https://www.cockpitbuilders.com). No doubt someone there will be able to point you in the right direction. I’d be interested to know as well.
